Davis Phinney Foundation ride:: Copper Triangle

transpixel Just before the top of the first pass, a huge meadow greets the riders. The man-made area is actually the tailings from the huge Climax molybdenum mine that provides much of the US's mineral need. Molybdenum is important in many industries, but in motorsport it is of particular importance, as it is used in motor oil to fight high temperature bind-up, as well as in the making of Chrome-Moly tubing which is used in race car frame construction. transpixel

transpixel Stunning scenes greet the riders at every pass, but the top of Vail pass is the best, as it means it's "all down hill from here!!!" The path from Vail Pass to Copper Mountain Resort is an eight mile descent along a bike path that winds its way along a creek. transpixel

transpixel Randy heads out ready to ride again. After the Davis Phinney ride which left from Copper Mountain and went for 100-miles over the passes and back to the end of the ride gathering at base camp, Randy took the opportunity while "out West" to ride some of the other outstanding passes and scenic rides the area has to offer. transpixel
